Overview
This site, for the national CTC, replaces the “Pothole Card” system that allowed CTC members to report hazardous road conditions using printed postcards. The site not only allows for the reporting of hazards, but it also records the hazards and their history. A further benefit is that the site automatically calculates the relevant Highway Authority for any location in the UK.

Successes
The site has raised the profile of the CTC and the problem of poor road conditions. Many motorists have used the site, as well as cyclists.
The site was mentioned on “Tonight with Trevor MacDonald” on 14th May 2007, resulting in 600 additional site visits within ten minutes. While the web server had to work quite hard, the site remained available and stable.
Technical Features
- Uses Google Maps extensively, with many customisations.
- Medium-complexity relational database for reports, report history, highway authority information.
- Uses 2001 Census data and CTC-gathered information to calculate the highway authority for any location in the UK.
